Long has shown common sense

I was among the voters in the 7th Congressional District who chose to send Billy Long to Washington, D.C., in 2010 and back again in 2012. He has my vote this November, too.
During his two terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, Long has done what he said he would do: carry common-sense ideas from southwest Missouri to our nation's capital and try to make government work better for us.
I've shared with the congressman my concerns, and the concerns of other farmers and ranchers, about growing federal regulations, particularly from the Environmental Protection Agency.
He listened and took the lead on legislation to ensure farms aren't declared Superfund sites because of farm animals' manure.
The congressman also co-sponsored a bill to stop the EPA from regulating every ditch and spot where rain water pools or runs.
The proposed "Waters of the U.S." rule is really a nationwide land-use plan disguised as a clarification in clean-water laws. Virtually anyone who works outside, from home builders to asphalt pavers, will be affected if the EPA gets its way.
These are just two examples of the congressman's work — and two reasons why I believe we need to keep him in office.
