JOPLIN, MO.--- The Southwest Center is made up of 41 school districts and tonight was a chance to celebrate what goes on in public education. More than 300 people attended the event. This is the 17th Annual Celebration of Schools. U.S. Missouri Congressman Billy Long attended the event and says the southwest school districts are in great shape.
"All the schools need to be handled at a local level, that's what we preach in Washington, and I want the school decisions made here in the 7th district, not in Washington, D.C.," said Billy Long, Missouri Congressman.
"This is the opportunity for districts to come together and honor achievements of teachers, administrators and board members. Just a chance to celebrate what goes on in public education," said Dr. Jim Horton, Southwest Center Executive Director.
They honored seven board members with 20-plus-years of experience in their district. Plus, Teacher of the Year awards were handed out.
