JOPLIN, MO.--- Long attended the Southwest Pachyderm Club's annual BBQ at Cunningham Park tonight. This was a way for the community to reach out and voice their concerns within the government. Club President Ben Baker says their club focuses on getting to know candidates and discusses local and national issues. Long says clubs like this show how important it is for people to vote and voice their opinion.

"This is where it happens. We're gonna change things in this country. We have to change it at the ballot box and grassroots. Workers like this, out here in June, picnic evening are the ones that do the door knocking and the sign installation, things like that," said Billy Long, Missouri Congressman.

"It's not just a national focus. You know, really it begins in our counties, in our districts, and it moves out from there.

So state issues and on to national issues, all of those are important," said Ben Baker, Southwest Pachyderm Club President.

Long and his team will be in the area all week working with the community.
