U.S. Rep. Billy Long will be showing off southwest Missouri to the Japanese ambassador on a wide-ranging tour this week.
Business will be the first topic of the day on Wednesday for the Missouri Republican Congressman and Japanese Ambassador Kenichiro Sasae, with a 90-minute event scheduled for the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce starting at 8 a.m.
Long and Sasae then plan to tour the Brewer Science facility at 10 a.m.
Later, the two officials will speak with a marketing class at Missouri State University, touching on topics of small business, entrepreneurship and commerce at about 1:30 p.m.
Sasae and Long are also expected to tour the eFactory, Bass Pro Shops and College of the Ozarks, according to the congressman's office.
Thursday, the tour goes west to K & S Wire Products and Nutra Blend in Neosho, with a jaunt to Missouri Southern State University in Joplin in the afternoon.
Sasae spoke in St. Louis last month, urging attendees of the Japan-Midwest U.S. Association conference to praise the controversial Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal.
Japan was Missouri's fourth-largest importer, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, although the total value of the state's exports to the east Asian country decreased by about 24 percent from 2012 to 2015.
