NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE OFFICE OF CONGRESSMAN BILLY LONG (MO.)

Long Votes Against Omnibus Spending Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Billy Long issued the following statement after voting against the omnibus spending bill:

“While this bill is better than another continuing resolution in that it actually sets priorities rather than merely extending existing policy without thought, I still could not support it. It amounts to a 2.6 percent increase over last year’s discretionary spending levels. If we cannot make the relatively small cuts right now which were agreed upon in the bipartisan Budget Control Act, then how do we expect a future president or Congress to see these cuts are enforced five or ten years from now? We need to do the right thing for our children today and not have to trust that someone else will do the right thing ten years from now.”
